The
church has not always existed. I'm not talking about MCC (50 people
met in May of 1954 to start MCC). I'm talking about THE church. If you
go back to the beginning of the Bible in Genesis, the church is not
there. But in all fairness, nothing else is either, except God.
The church is nowhere in the Old Testament.
The church is nowhere in the Gospels.
It isn't until Jesus has gone back to heaven that the church is now here (Acts 2). And then God UNLEASHED it on the world. And the church turned the world upside down (Acts 17:6 KJV).
We
are beginning 2012 looking at how God did and does turn the world
upside down through the church. We are settling into the book of Acts,
the story of the beginning of the church, to see how God will turn our
world upside down through us.
This
Sunday is Super Bowl Sunday. Did you know that Super Bowl Sunday is
the number 1 party night in America? It seems that everyone will be at a
Super Bowl Party. So, while so many are aware of the NFL, I want to
see if you can identify this NFL player (clue: he is not playing in the
Super Bowl).
He may be the most talked about NFL player this year.
An ESPN poll named him the most popular athlete in America.
After a play-off game in which he threw the game winning pass, Twitter exploded with 9420 tweets per second about him.
This
first year player has what the early church had going for it and what
God needs His church today to have going for it: reputation. But it's
not the typical NFL reputation.
I hope you'll join us this Sunday to find out what our reputation needs to be. Be sure to invite a friend to come with you.
See you Sunday,
Mike
